IPEncaps
The IPEncaps project was an ESA/ESTEC funded activity with the goal of defining and implementing a replacement to the currently deployed Multi-Protocol-Encapsulation (MPE) for DVB. MPE has several deficiencies regarding overhead, packing and IPv6 support. The Multimedia Communications group has created two different encapsulation methods:- The SIMPLE Encapsulation, which can be used to efficiently transmit data and synchronize audio/video content with IP packets.
- The Unidirectional Lightweight Encapsulation (ULE), which is an efficient encapsulation method for any type of network traffic.
We have released a complete ULE patch set under the GNU Public License. This code has been incorporated in the LinuxTV software, which has been included into DVB core network driver in the recent standard Linux kernels.
