IPEncaps

The IPEncaps project was an ESA/ESTEC funded activity with the goal of defining and implementing a replacement to the currently deployed Multi-Protocol-Encapsulation (MPE) for DVB. MPE has several deficiencies regarding overhead, packing and IPv6 support. The Multimedia Communications group has created two different encapsulation methods: The ULE encapsulation was implemented in the IPEncaps project. An ULE encapsulator and decapsulator have been built for the Open DVB Gateway, the Pent@value DVB-S receiver card, and the Technotrend DVB-S receiver card. The implementations have been tested for cross-interoperability with other manufacturers of IP/DVB gateways and DVB receivers.

We have released a complete ULE patch set under the GNU Public License. This code has been incorporated in the LinuxTV software, which has been included into DVB core network driver in the recent standard Linux kernels.
